2022 Alumni Awards: by Sandra Yerkes (SOM ‘80)

The USU Alumni Association awarded its 2022 Alumni Awards during the Founder’s Day Dinner held on 24 September 2022.  Eighteen impressive nominees were considered for the prestigious awards that recognize USU alumni for their military and medical academic contributions, clinical productivity, commitment to the military medical mission, and demonstrated leadership. The following individuals were chosen as the 2022 recipients:

The Uniformed Services University Alumni Association Lifetime Achievement Award, for significant contributions made to Health Sciences or Military Health, academic achievement, outstanding leadership, high personal integrity, promotion of the art and science of medicine in or through military/government/community service, significant contribution to the military or public health of a community or special population and other honors received, was awarded to COL Jasmine J. Han, MC, USA, Class of 2003.

The Uniformed Services University Alumni Association Military Medical Service Graduate of the Year Award, for significant contributions to Military Health, assignments of responsibility, outstanding leadership, high personal integrity, military publications, deployments, heroic actions, military awards and other awards, was awarded to CAPT Timothy M. Quast, MC, USN, Class of 2002.

The Uniformed Services University Alumni Association School of Medicine Graduate of the Year Award, for board certification in a recognized specialty as defined by the American Board of Medical Specialties, significant contributions to Medicine or Military Medicine, leadership that has influenced standards and professional practice, command or operational activity, contributions to medical education, contributions to basic science or clinical research, special contributions to the field of medicine, extramural activities that further the goals of the profession and other honors received, was awarded to Col Kerry Latham, MC, USAF, Class of 2000.

The Uniformed Services University Alumni Association Graduate School of Nursing Graduate of the Year Award, for board certification in Advanced Practice Nursing, significant contributions to the local, domestic or global healthcare community, leadership in healthcare policy, command, operational or humanitarian contributions, influence in nursing or healthcare education, scholarly practice, special contributions to the field of nursing, extramural activities that further the goals of the nursing or other healthcare professions and impact on clinical practice, was awarded to CAPT Michele A. Kane, PhD, Class of 2008.

The Uniformed Services University Alumni Association Postgraduate Dental College Graduate of the Year Award for board certification in a recognized specialty as defined by the American Board of Dental Specialties, significant contributions to Dentistry or Military Medicine, leadership that has influenced standards and professional practice, command or operational activity, contributions to dental education, contributions to basic dental science or clinical dental research, special contributions to the field of dentistry, extramural activities that further the goals of the profession and other honors received.
